    "Alternative" Kilt Jackets

With the upcoming important events, I was browsing around the web to see about kilt jackets and noticed that they are VERY familiar to some crop tuxedo jackets.

If anyone's looking for a good deal, eBay has listings under "tuxedo jacket crop" that are VERY close. Add-on some buttons at the cuff, and you have a GREAT kilt jacket for formal occasions, for minimal cost. We're looking under $50 with shipping included. Just make sure to get the models that are like the kilt jackets, and NOT the "Jerry Lewis" kind. It's worth a look to save a LOAD of moolah.

These deals are too tough to turn down!

The Eton style waiters jacket has the same high cut as a kilt jacket. I haven't found any other than in kinda cheap polyester though.

The "Scott Blair" argyl that I bought cost a small fortune! I don't for one second regret shelling out the cash for it, but it's ecouraging to hear there's a reasonable alternative. The main difference I think is the plain cuffs. I know that there are sources on the net for those silver square buttons.

I have been toying with the idea of altering a conventional jacket and kinda making a "hybrid". For example you could take a blazer or tweed sport coat and just under the lowest button do some carefully preplanned (with a rough pattern) cutting. All that needs done then is a new seam around each side. If you live in a major city, clothing consignment stores are a great resource. There you can pick up jackets, vests, waistcoats etc. When getting a jacket for the cutting idea, we would have to choose one where the pockets don't foul everything up. Patch pockets might be best because they can be moved. Have fun. - Alan
