Argyll Jacket - J. Higgins or USA Kilts?
I would like to get a black Argyll jacket and waistcoat and have been puzzling over whether to order from J. Higgins or USA Kilts. I've seen a few reviews of J. Higgins but none of USA Kilts (honestly, I TRIED the search feature and even tried Google search!). Anyone own a USA Kilts Argyll? Are there any differences between the two products that I should be aware of? Many thanks!

Well, I bought my tweed black from Rocky at USA kilts. More selection of colours and I saw it in the store.
Unfortunately, one of the people who works there is allergic to dogs, and I have to shop mail order.
Rocky has a better selection. Probably the best on the left side of the pond.

I bought my Argyll and waistcoat from Rocky (USAK.) They were made by St. Kilda. I'm absolutely thrilled with the set, couldn't be happier honestly. Not much to really review, seeing as it's your standard jacket and waistcoat. The construction is great, the size was true to size. Any specific questions on them?

To be honest I feel kind of stupid asking people to compare the two when probably there isn't anyone out there who owns one of each!
I'm guessing they're both reasonably good for off the rack jackets. The Higgins set is $65 cheaper and will definitely not incur duty when it comes across to Canada (since they're made in the good old USA). On the other hand I hear nothing but good things about Rocky and his kilts and expect that his jackets are similarly good.
I think the idea of spending $300+ on a jacket I haven't seen up close is a bit daunting. Unfortunately the ones I've seen so far in Toronto are significantly more expensive.

I believe Higgins has a pretty liberal return policy, since as you noted they make their jackets here in the USA, and they are not special ordered.
I have their Argyll Waistcoat, and have no complaints.
Best regards,

I'm a real cheap-skate, all my jackets are conversions, with the exception of my PC. You should be able to do it yourself, or find a local tailor to do the standard modifications for around $30.00.
The cheapest way to go by far is to find a thrift shop coat and have it cut down. Vests work without mods.

I came, I saw, I tried on, I came back and purchased. I love my Rocky Argyll. There is a picture of me in it under the heading My MacRae.
