Badger Help
At present I'm looking for a full mask badger sporran. Easy enough right? Here's the catch, #1-I'm a little guy (skinny) so I don't want one of those monstrosoties that would cover the entire front apron of either my casual or TANK. #2-As an employee of a fly shop, funding is rather limited, so I need to get a sporran that won't bankrupt me. Any suggestions?
Thanks Guys,

Turpin has a badger sporran on his no-jones page http://www.thorfinnsporrans.com/8.html at a fairly reasonable price including a fur flap and a black leather flap, but not a full face.
I know he makes them to order, but those are based on the cost of the pelt plus a set amount for labor. Here's a pic of his own Buddy the Badger in the Stone Mountain Games thread. http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/x...stone+mountain (see the fourth picture down).
If you have one made, he can adjust the size to your liking because they're custom.

These folks stock several species other than badger that are smaller and might make an adequate but smaller sporran:

I've been wondering what the muskrat looks like and for $20, I might just order one to see.
I get your point about the general huge-ness of some of the full-critter sporrans...sometimes it looks like the sporran is wearing you instead of you wearing the sporran.
I'm sure that when you find a pelt supplier you could call them and ask if they have any smaller versions of what you're after.

Thanks McFarkus. I was actually looking at that website a couple days ago. I'm looking mainly for a full mask, though, the other badger sporrans are quite nice.
Anyone else have any suggestions?

Thanks AA. didn't see a badger on their page, but the bobcat was rather nice. Also liked the thought of a possible black bear sporran someday in the future.

I think that they have had badgers in the past but it appears that they're not available through them right now. It was by way of suggesting that a "badger alternative" might be an avenue that you might want to explore. If a badger seems large, a bear would be humongous...

Dang... Forget about a full mask bear... Just use the head! The mouth alone should provide ample storage!

The thing about badger is that a good pelt has very full, thick fur that gives a "halo" effect larger than the bag itself. So to get a proportionally smaller sporran you'd either want to shorten hair around the perimeter of the bag or make the bag about 1.5 inches smaller in height and width. You can make up somewhat for lost room by adding some depth to it. Or a combination of both.
I could provide the smaller bag unclipped, and you could take it to a pet store and have it "groomed". If they didn't chase you out or report you for animal cruelty.
