    Bash my threads

OK, I reckon its my turn to turn myself over to the tender hands of the gang here at X-Marks...

May I offer an example of my dress? I'm the one in lace.

This photo was taken during a father-son kilt contest at our local Irish fest.*

I'm wearing the American Heritage Tartan in PV from USA Kilts, a lace jabot I'm fond of, a berret-cum-bonnet thanks to a pom-pom and clan crest badge and I have a twig of cedar tucked behind the badge.

Hard to see it, but the vest is a brown corduroy and I can't recall which hose I'm wearing. I know I should have had on more contrasting flashes, but they were on loan to another member of our group.

Please, be honest and let me know what you think.

    * Yea, yea.. Scottish kilts at an Irish fest -- but you get get minor perks here and there if you look good, so I do it.

What might strike you as weirder...

My dad, brother and I run a moped shop together where a great deal of our job is fixing smaller bikes. If you are in NE Ohio and getting a Tomos fixed, he might be that guy.

I think it looks like you and your dad blew the competition away

A bit of constructive criticism would be to reserve a lace jabot for formal evening events. It looks rather over the top with daywear. You might also try folding the cuff of your hose over a bit further to cover more of your flashes and expose more of your knees.

You and your Dad both look great! I hope you won the contest.

I even like your jabot, though most folks would probably agree with CMcG that it's more at home in a formal setting. I would have worn something a bit more understated, like a red ruche tie.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Not really a moped guy...but I'll keep it in mind!

    Thanks folks...

I kinda expected comments that the lace was too formal. Trouble is, I really dislike wearing neck ties. Everything from "everbody wears them" to "egads, they are boring and ugly" to "they are part of a social uniform and I'm a rebel."

I'm still looking at other alternatives...

As for the hose, I didn't realize I was wearing them so high.. I'll watch out for that and keep them folded over more.

    Thanks again.

Jeremy: Check out the variety of tie-like-objects at

Perhaps there's something you could "tolerate" at that site.

    Good luck.

Look no further than your father! I don't think a necktie is really required for casual summer kilt wear these days...
