Black Hose...
All right, everyone -- I need your opinion. I'm in the market for some new hose for my evening attire (Prince Charlie jacket, although I hope to have a regulation doublet at some point, completet wi' Inverness flaps!) -- I've been considering Black Hose, since there is so much black in my tartan, Ancient Cumming Hunting (see picture below).
I've been thinking about either ancient red or ancient green coloured flashes to go with the black hose.
Any opinions? be honest, now.
Cheers,
T.

I'd be inclined to go with the green flashes. I think green would blend it all together better. Red would be my second choice provided you had the red kercheif in the jacket pocket as in the picture, but without a matching kercheif I'd definately opt for the green.

red v green....
Thanks, Bubba. The Red in question is "ancient red", which is really more orange in appearance, as in the photo. No red pocket square with the formal outfit, since charlies don't have breast pockets.
But, I am like you -- I am inclined to the green as well...

Not being a fan of white socks, I tend to like the idea of black as a statement of formality.
I also like the idea of the ancient red flashes for a splash of colour. Sorry, the MacGregor coming out.

A black socks affair huh? Sorry, Todd I couldn't resist.
Both the green and the red would look well, the green would tend to give it a bit of a more muted tone, and the red would make it somewhat more casual formal style (like a wedding for example).
That is just my opinion, and I have been known to be wrong a time or two, I know that is hard to belive

black hose...
Guid yin, Glen.
Burns Nicht season is fast approaching -- I have three to go to this year -- and Burns Nichts are usually fairly formal. Hence, the question.
I'm leaning more and more towards the green...

That's funny, I too have been thinking about adding some Black kilt hose to the mix. I will likely just use my red flashes with it (maybe even my black one as a hidden feature ). I say go for it, the black will go with numerous aspects of the kilt.

I used to have a grudge against the black kilt hose. I think it was from seeing too many old men around wearing shorts, black crew-length socks, and sandals. :P NASTY!!!
Recently, I've seen some black kilt hose in various places, and I'm really growing to like them. I agree that they add a certain "formal" flair. Then again, in Idaho, wearing a tie is a formal affair.
As for the flashes, I think that it could go either way. You could look at the ancient green as being a continuation of the main colour onto the lower part of your legs, thus adding a sense of visual balance. On the other hand, if you're going with the ancient red, it's more of an accentuating accessory, and can help add a certain flair to the entire package. In short, I guess I'd have to see them with the full regalia, and then make a decision. Hmmm....guess that wasn't very helpful, was it.

Idaho formal affairs...
Then again, in Idaho, wearing a tie is a formal affair.
Same in Missouri, Rufus.
I guess I'm just going to have to buy the red AND the green flashes and see!

Hose
Having worn white (or rather, cream) for years I have become a convert to the dark side. (Oooo Darth Vader is calling me)I've got black, dark blue and dark green these days with all sorts of flashes. I have to admit red flashes on black socks looks the mutt's nuts. Robert at Rkilts was kind enough to send me some leather ones to match the kilts I have had off him.
