Black Watch Tartan J. Peterman Shirt
You guys know I've no love for the Black Watch tartan, but hey, a lot of you do. The new J. Peterman catalog has their Thomas Jefferson style shirt available in Black Watch tartan. A rare thing.
I have a bunch in solid colors, top quality, and a solid value at $39.
I like the shirts for American War Between the States and frontier look, but they also are loose sleeved and could be considerred a Jacobite look.
Might go well with solid color Freedom Kilts, Utilikilts, or AmeriKilts.
So take a look. http://jpeterman.com/product.asp?pn=1012

I think those shirts would look great with a kilt (not the Black Watch one, obviously, but one of the solid colors). It has an historic flair to it, but it can still function as a modern shirt, so you can wear it with the kilt without feeling like you were in a costume.
I may just add that to my Christmas wish list! Have you got any photos of you in that style, Ron? What is your opinion of the fit and quality?

The copy doesn't give a clue to fabric content. It doesn't even say what kind of fabric it is made of. It is hard to want to buy a shirt just by a story about Monicello and a drawing of a wrinkled shirt.

For me the fit of the J. Peterman shirt is very good since its loose about the belly. The sleeves are the same loose width as my Broadsword Jacobite type shirts.
Quality is excellent. You know how I am about quality and value...I'm still amazed at the low price.
Fabric is 100% cotton. The loose fit and cotton made it a great shirt for Phoenix when I lived down there.
I'm sorta weird about "needing" a pocket in my shirts for glasses and pens, this one doesn't have them so I don't wear it as much as other similar style found at western reenactor type stores.
It does capture the Jeffersonian look very well. Has wooden buttons so I hang it dry.
Only pic I could find on short notice (headed out for work) is this one from a disposable camera. Shows the generous four button neck opening and large buttons.
As the copy says they're cut like shirts from the 1700s. I think they work well with kilts.

Maybe it's the trend this year. I saw many tartan shirts in the LLBean catalogue we received. They have some on their website, mostly the US military tartans in traditional button down shirts. I seem to remember alot more in the catalogue though I don't see it laying around right now to check it out.

Aye Scott,
I picked up two of them L.L. Bean tartan shirts, the West Point and the Leatherneck.
It seems even more Scottish to wear a tartan shirt with a solid color kilt.

That was my thinking Ron. I was waiting to see what my lovely wife spoiled me with for Christmas before I ordered, since i made a big deal about them when I saw them. I bet they look great with a solid color kilt.
