    Bow tie

Do bow ties count as kilt accessories? Intending on wearing one to the upcoming Burns Night Supper, so I hope so In any case I just purchased my first bow tie. Someone on this forum had mentioned Beau Ties of Vermont, so I checked them out and found a tie I loved. I'd link a pic here so you could see the detail, but it appears to be sold out. It was a vintage fabric, I so I guess maybe they ran out. Lucky I ordered when I did! http://www.beautiesltd.com/PRODUCT.ASPX?pn_deptid=7500 shows a similar fabric... mine looks more or less the same, except the blue on blue pattern is much subtler.

That's a pic of what I'll be wearing in a couple weeks, including my spankin' new bow tie. Never actually tied one on before, as I've only ever worn pre-tied or clip ons And the instructional videos left me more confused than if I had just tried to tie it on never having seen how. Anyway, I finally finagled it to look ok. Not great, but that comes with practice.

    Lookin' snappy!

One thing to remember about bow ties is that when you tie one, it should look like you tied it yourself. If you want perfection buy a clip-on or wrap-and-hook variety.

Congratulations on joining the bow tie-ers. It can be a little addicting. I was recently in a tux shop to browse, and found a large bin full of "pre-worn" ties for $2 each. I picked up three that looked good to me -- all of them of the wrap-and-hook style, of course but they're fast to put on and look OK.

Beau Ties has a sale on right now, so it's a good excuse to blow a little cash on some collar bling. (Did I just say that? Sheesh...)

Gotta get the sewing machine going and treadle up some new ties -- I have some old neck ties to "recycle."

Ooo, a sale at Beau Ties? I'll have to peruse. I had my eye turned towards a couple of their Escher ties...

Thanks for all the compliments! I'm sure that anyone seeing would have been sure that it was self-tied, as it was far from perfect. But that's fine by me. I saw a couple of "perfect" ones, and realised that they just don't look quite right to me.
