Brown leather waistcoat/vest Buffalo nickle buttons
This was a nice find from shopgoodwill, the auction site good will maintains. In looking for waistcoat/vests I am looking for two styles, the more proper black wool which I have found on Gentlemen's Emporium and a more casual yet classy leather. I found and outbid, at the last few seconds, one such vest. The Goodwill site has many nice items and there where quite a few black and brown leather vests. Most of the brown were light brown suede except for the one I purchased. It is a dark brown with a very soft suede finish. The dark brown goes nice with my brown Celtic knot day sporran and belt. When buttoned the belt is either hidden or can be removed. The unique thing that kept me bidding on this was the 4 Buffalo nickel buttons that are real buffalo nickels. It also has lapels, no collar. All in all for what I paid, and Im sure what it originally sold for, it is a classy vest that accents the casual day wear and earthtones I like most. A couple photos to follow, buttoned, unbuttoned and one of the buttons.
Cheers \_/\_/

Love the buttons, I have some on a sweater that my mother knit for me. Very nice looking vest and outfit, great find!

I was prepared to hate this, but it actually looks good with your kilt. Well done!

Great find! I really love leather vests with kilts - if there are enough pockets in the vest you can even lose the sporran.

Great find! It ties the entire casual look together, and the buttons make the vest distinctive.

That's what I was thinking too. I think perhaps the thing that saved it and made it look good with the kilt is that it has lapels.

Re: Brown leather waistcoat/vest Buffalo nickle buttons
I think my description and photos dont do justice to the colour of the vest. This is not a suede as I may have said earlier but really a soft brushed leather. It is skin smooth and soft. The colour is a rich chocolate brown, not the redish, orange brown of the 60's 70's Peter Fonda suede vests. The photo of the button shoes the true color. It by far is a well made piece of quality leather that doesnt have the discoloration of lesser suede. It also has a nice fit, not loose like the old suede vests. This could easily have been wool and looked good too, but the dark leather adds to the earthtone causal look. I have my Stillwater Standard Weathered MacKenzie on which is one of my favorite kilts for casual pub wear. I wouldnt wear this with my German Heritage tartan "tank" that I reserve for dress but it does go well for a classier casual look, buttoned with a bolo tie or un-buttoned. And I agree, the lapels add a nice look as does the cut of the whole garment. I did luck out with a last minute bid on this piece.
