buzz kidder sporrans
I take it the Buzz kidder sporrans don't come with a strap??
I have to apologize to all the suppliers (many of whom hang out here) of whom I ask so many questions. I promise that one day when I have more disposable income, I will come-a-callin'.

I think they come with a chain.
Straps prove a little more elusive. So far I've found you can get the sporran loops from Scottish Tartans (Matt Newsome) and Buzz. Straps can be had from Freelander and also from Thistle Stop (Cyndi).
I'm currently shopping for my first sporran - quite a task! Maybe though I'm overcomplicating things.

I should have read the other thread more carefully before posting this one.....
I have a black sporran from freelander, but have found that I could use a brown for day/more casual wear (The freelander is definitely nice enough for evening, IMHO).
You and I are probably in the same boat - money is an issue.
I bought a black leather sporran strap from Highland X-press for around 10.00, its pretty cheap (in more ways than one). It gets the job done, though.
So I am now playing that decision game - buy now or wait? I almost have the jones under control. If I could do leatherwork, I would just go to a horse tackle shop here and buy the strap and add the hardware myself.
The freelander straps are really nice. He puts a 'magic' braid into it - it is really nice, especially for the price.
I never wear a kilt belt, so the sporran hangers are out.
I too looked at Bear and Celtic Empire, and for the price I thought it was a darn good deal. Real quality stuff.
But $48 direct from BK for the Rob Roy - that's just mind-boggling.
I truly wish I had the funds to support everyone here. Everyone works hard and gives out such good advice - one day, one day......

To THIS DAY, I STILL wear my Buzz Sporran a lot! I have six sporrans that I adore, but the Celtic Knot BK Sporran is just so easy to match with every kilt that I own. It has taken an absolute beating over the years that I've worn it, and it has held-up magnificently. That price is why I consider it one of the two BEAT BUYS in sporrans still.
Yes... it comes with a simple chain that can be cut to size. That will hold you over until you can find a replacement and some funds.

That about hits the nail on the head!
I was looking at Freelander, and had I not spent so much money already I think I'd go for one hands down. I still might, I like them a lot, I'm just playing the money/investment game. If more money now for a better product will serve me better then I'll go for it. But if the product isn't so much better and I'd be happy, with and served well by, a cheaper product then I'm not 'rolling around' enough to justify all the extra expense.
The Kidder does sound like a sound sporran but I'm just not sure I like the style as much as others.
The Knotwork is a bit of an unkown quantity since I like the style somewhat and the price with strap is a good deal, but will I be disappointed with the product - too small or whatever?
Whilst I'm loving the kilts I have and can see myself getting more, I'm not an indiscriminate spender and wont be loading up on a collection of sporrans and shirts and all the other stuff. One sporran will be enough for me for a while I think.
Incidentally, and I know this breaks with tradition, but I found that since I didn't have a sporran but wanted to wear my new traditional and needed both the function and style of having something with my kilt, I found that I quite liked adding one of the detachable pockets from my UK Survival to my belt, wearing it on the hip.

It's a VERY good sized sporran. It will hold anything that you can dish-out. Wallet, phone, keys, etc. I've held four bottles of beer in mine.
Besides the Celtic Knot, the Rob Roy model with tassels is the same size. It's a wonderful, laid-back look too. It's actually a little more "traditional" in its appearance.

That would be like the front pocket-sporran on the AmeriKilt? Hey... whatever works with what you've got!

Greetings,
I have a Kidder "Rob Roy", and there *always* seems to be room for "just a little more stuff". So much so that my wife has started asking "Do you have room for <whatever>, too?"
Plenty of room, very well made, nice leather. I couldn't be happier. I agree with Jimmy - The best buy in sporrans, hands down!

Hey Beer,
You can get all leather sporran straps from RKilts. Robert bailed me out when Craigie was overwhelmed last fall. Then she delivered the order a few months later. So have both. Not sure what Craigies jones time is but she makes them herself with the velcro stuff on the inside, down in Florida, not too far from yal.
Just a couple more options...all leather sporran straps were hard for me to find last fall.

All of Buzz Kidder's sporrans come with a chain. Not a standard sporran chain belt with the leather strap and buckle, but just a simple long chain that you cut down to size and clip on your sporran. It's not what I would use full-time, but it comes free with the sporran and will work until you find something better.
As for the sporrans, I agree with everyone here. They are the best value I have found for the money. Warning, testimopnial coming up.
I wear the kilt for a living. I wear it almost every day, and moreover I sell kilts and kilt accessories, so how I look is sort of like an advertisement for me. Moreover, I have access to pretty much any kind of sporran I want, at wholesale prices no less. And the sporran I choose to wear on a daily basis? A brown Buzz Kidder Rob Roy style. I've had it for years and have never thought of replacing it. The only thing that I have added is that I pinned a crest badge to the front flap for some added pazazz. :-)
You'll find it to be the roomiest, sturdiest sporran you can buy for the money. It is equipped on the back to be worn with either a clip-on chain belt or a plain leather belt. Works great either way.
As I have said before, Buzz Kidder sporrans are what we stock on our shelves in the gift shop. If people want an imported dress or semi-dress sporrans, we will custom order them, but 9 times out of 10 our customers go with a BK sporran. We even have a lot of folks using his black Rob Roy sporrans for formal wear.
