Cheap, practical hose for TIGHT budgets
As the budget issue keeps coming up, I'd thought I'd bring back up something that has been posted before.
If one needs cheap kilt hose (socks for the ), one workable alternative to wool kilt ones, or hiking socks, are solid color "soccer"/"football" socks.
I bought some Russell Athletic "All Sport Sock" made in 80% Acrylic, 19% Nylon, and 1% Lycra Spandex. They are tagged as Style number: RTS00AS I bought large (the biggest size I could find). They are "over the knee" socks and are thick enough to look OK folded over flashes. Mine are no more ribbed then a pair of $20 wool ones I have that were sold AS kilt hose. I bought them in Greenwood, SC at $3.99/pair. They work for casual wear and are sold in normal "rainbow" colors used by most sports teams (you probably WON'T find Lovat green or blue). I bought green, navy, black, and a purple (to use with my Warrior tartan kilt -black flashes- and for appropriate MacBubba garb -yellow flashes). They work well in South Carolina temps.
They should be available at any sports team supply store that carries/supplies equipment and uniforms.
Just thought some of y'all might find it useful.
(Yea, X Marks foogies, I KNOW it has been mentioned before, just a reminder).

I have found the socks from hamilton dry good to work really well as well. At 3 pair for 12 bucks, it is hard to beat.

Mapquest shows 3 places in SC named Greenwood. They are in Greenwood, Laurens and Sumter Counties: http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp...te=sc&zipcode=
Since the address is on Highway 72, I am guessing it is number 1 on the map at the link above, on the road to Abbeville?

I know quite a few guys in the highland games use these kind of socks during competition. They aren't as hot and bulky as kilt hose but from a distance still give you the right look.
