Claret Prince Charlie

A little while ago I was looking for a new Prince Charlie, my old black set was lent out to a friend and he never returned it, after trying to get it back unsuccessfully I went and started looking for a new set. Normally I would go out and purchase a black set, however I was lucky enough to find this claret set on gumtree.co.uk for £20 which I thought would work wonderfully with the Scottish Wildcat Tartan. Having worn it a couple of times now I have to say I like it and think it helps set this outfit apart from the normal black Prince Charlie jackets that you see at any number of Scottish events. I may still get another black set one day, but have many other options so may never do that at all.

Normally I would have screamed no to the red jacket, but you have a much better eye for colours and what works together than me. It works really well with the wildcat and would probably work really well with a dark green kilt with a splash of deep red in the tartan.

I may have to keep an eye on gumtree myself.

You seem to be able to pull it off. I have a friend who has one just like that and he looks like a clown in it. But then he looks like a clown in his baby blue PC too.

Thanks Steve, I would not for example wear this with my Royal Stewart, but feel it works with this tartan. I do have a black argyll with silver buttons that I could wear the same way if I wanted to.

Yea, I know you do but my point is that some people can carry off the unusual jacket colors and some people can't seem to look good in anything.

Doesn't that suck? The first truly nice jacket I ever owned, a tailored Brooks Brothers blazer was lost when loaned to a friend for a law clerking interview. Never saw that blazer again.

Yeah it really does, I would love to get the old set back even though I would probably never wear it, it was mine.

I normally have this problem with books and it must be incredibly annoying with expensive clothing.

I think the claret PC looks well on you and with you kilt. Very distinctive: not going with the herd but still tasteful.

Steve is right, some people can pull it of while others would fail miserably. It suits you well, but if I wore it, I would look like a Scottish parking valet...
