    Could be a sgian dubh

A cool little knife that would work as a unique sgian dubh. You'd have to make your own sheath, though:

I love Track and they have been good to work with the few times I've ordered from them. I really like that patch knife.

    - The sheath is VERY thick (leather-covered wood)
    - Blade is VERY dull. Except for the point.

I still use it, but not after stripping off the varnish and sanding one of the sides down flat. After that, its acceptable as its a bit different than a standard sgian, sticks out a bit, and the end cap actually has a 3-D molded crown on it. Looks rather nice, until you pull it out. As long as you have some decent sized flashes, the bulky sheath isn't TOO noticable.

However, for the $30-35 you'll be paying for it, and the work it took to make it appear better... i'd be inclined to just make my next one myself. Then, at least, you'd have a blade that can actually cut.

Don't get me wrong. I understand that it seems dumb to many who view the knife as a tool to have a knife that can't cut, but isn't it kinda normal for a sgian dubh to be intentionally left dull like that? It isn't meant as a tool anymore (discounting the sgian brew); it's ceremonial for many (though, I'm guessing not to you). But isn't it normal to find a dull sgian?

I sure can't speak for anyone else, but a knife that can't be used is an ornament, and would never be carried by me. If I can't use it, what good is it? Is it then just a piece of jewellry?

In your mind is the sgian dubh just like a ring on your finger or a necklace around your neck?

I have two sgian dubhs (sgians dubh?), both of which came dull, and both of which I filed and sharpened. I use my sgian dubh all the time as a utility knife when I wear it. It always comes in handy, and keeps me from having to root in my sporran for my Swiss Army knife.
