    Custom shirt question

I have ordered custom shirts before, and like the ability to choose all the details I want. A few years ago, I ordered a couple from shirtsmyway.com with extra length at the bottom for wearing with the kilt. They had quite a lot of options. But there's one detail that I don't see anyone offering, and I wonder if anyone here has a source for custom-ordered shirts that would include this option. It has to do with collar height.

I suppose I'm one of those people who has a shorter than average neck. A regular shirt with a standard collar, when buttoned up, chafes the back of my neck because my hairline comes down below the collar. And the front chafes the portion of my neck that I shave below my beard (this is unavoidable to some degree). I would really like to have a shirt with a lower-profile collar, though, to minimise chafing. I like to wear "skinny ties" because they suit my body size/shape better anyway, so I don't need all that extra collar height to accommodate a wider tie.

Even a 1/4" reduction in collar height would make a huge difference in comfort and aesthetics to me. Is there any company out there who does made-to-order shirts that might offer this? I don't want to have to go to a full-blown bespoke shirt just for this.

I hope you receive a response Tobus. I have a long neck with similar issues in collars (nape hair and beard tugging). I would love to have shirts made for me, but can not find the time to make my own or afford to have bespoke. Am anxious for input also.

    Tobus:

You might take a look at http://moderntailor.com/. Once you get into the collar options, they have a number of choices. And they show the height measurements of each.

Hope to see you in San Antonio soon!

Thanks, Shaun! It looks like they have collar heights ranging from 3cm to 5.6cm. That's a pretty big difference. Just what I was looking for, though!

I am planning on making it to the San Antonio Highland Games in a few weeks.

They also show an option for the "collar lining" which is the stiffness, so softer would also would help to reduce chafing.
