DFW, TX hookup for Sgian Brews
If you can make it to Scarborough Faire in Waxahachie this season...
The guy in the booth that makes and sells all the staghorn handle knives and Native American style pouches and regalia can make stag-horn handled Sgian Brews for relatively cheap. I talked to him about it last weekend and he didn't think there was much of a market for them. So as a test he's making me one that he'll have for me this weekend for about $30 it sounds like. I figured I'd return the favor and recommend him to my fellow kilt-wearers in the Dallas / Fort Worth area!
After you enter the fair turn left and he'll be along the left side.
And if you go, DON'T BUY THE ONE HE MADE FOR ME! :P It was hard enough waiting the week for this one! I'm sure he'll make more if people ask him too though. I just hope he understands what kind of bottle opener it needs and he didn't make it with a little sharp can opener or anything!

I've gone to the Texas Ren Fest in Magnolia north of Houston for several years. I'd like to make to Scarborough Faire one of these years.

He didn't get a chance to make it this past week due to trouble with the hail storm. I saw him again this weekend though and gave him my email address. Also clarified that I wanted the ring style opener and not the can-opener kind! He's a nice guy and the stuff in his shope always looks really cool.
His booth at Scarby is called "Elkhorn Trading Company."
Also didn't get a chance to take a photo of my brother in his new kilt that I finally finished for him last week! He said he was going this past weekend but I didn't run into him there. (we're not the best communicators in my family!)

My family and I are working at Scarborough this season (the wife for Poetic Portraits, and I...I am kid-shepherd). I know the place you mention and I'd love to see the finished product! Let me know when you're going to be up there next; maybe we could meet up for a beer (or three)!

I have one a damascus elk horn blade from him, made many years ago.
If you're looking to get lost in time, go up the step inside his shop. He usually has wooden and metal brain puzzles.
Ron if you & your brother are fully dressed. Ie close to period dress (no T-shirt, tennis shoes, etc.) meet at the top of the hill at the Scots Cottage (in front of the falconer's stage) for Noon time Marching instructions, then Join the Queens Own Highlanders in the parade. The more Scots the merrier. I've marched quite a few times now. Gives you a sense of pride to be 'protecting' her Highness the Royal Queen of Scotland, and adding to the atmosphere for the regular patron of Scarborough.

No Sgian Brew yet but I did get a new handmade sporran today. A crafter I'd met at Four Winds Ren Faire in Tyler made it for me in trade for a sword I gave him. I'll post pictures later when I get a chance and also give a link to his website in case anyone in the Fort Worth area wants to contact him for one.
And I've been invited to join the parade when kilted before at Scarby but I've never planned well enough to be where I was supposed to for it! Everytime I'm there in kilt though I always here at least one "next time you're gettin' in the parade!" No more visits this year but maybe next year!

Scarborough Faire attendee
Just want to say Hi as a newbee. My wife Cathy & I went to Scarborough in Waxahatchie this year for the first time and loved it. We went as spectators but would like to dress up in 2009. Did anybody else enjoy the Moor of Dundee and Cast In Bronze? Lee
