Ermine Sporran?
Does anyone out there have an ermine sporran that they could post a picture of?
Does anyone have an idea for a good design of an ermine sporran?
Is there even any interest in ermine sporrans at all?
And finally, what is the BEST way to sew pelts (ermine in this case) together to be useful as a sporran?
Thanks!

That's like a stoat/weasel/ferret/mongoose, right? Like a furry tube sock?
Could be a good trim, or a full mask for a boy's sporran, or as tassels...I dunno, do you think you could you even get a complete sporran from one of them?
I can see intentionally using multiple pelts for a stripe effect, too, to get width. I have no idea how large they are, and I'm just guessing that I'm thinking of the right critter.
Just throwing out ideas...

The one on the far left is ermine.

I've got a mink I've been meaning to sporran... Have to measure it first. :-)

Yeah, these are all white. I made a little boy's sporran out of one (I sewed the eyes shut improperly and I'm just not all that pleased.)
I have a number of ermine pelts that I can sew together. I think the "stripe" effect might work well as texture to the fine white fur. But you certainly can't make a sporran out of only one unless it was just trim.

Thanks for the link. I don't think that is quite what I'm looking for in this case though. I kind of want more formal--and I am not too sure about cantle-type sporrans right now, that is, making them.

James,
I have seen ermine sporrans. The nicest one was made up with three masks, which were perfectly enclosed by the cantle. the tails were used as tassels..

Maybe I'll do something similar but forgo the cantle. Gives me a lot to think about.

Don't take this the wrong way, but the tassel tails make me think "ferret", not "ermine", and ferrets...well...yeah, no. Probably if you were wearing it in a context where people were likely to recognize ermine, and ferrets were not so ubiquitous in pet stores...
All white would probably work, tho...

NOW THIS I LIIIKE!
Notice the beautiful cantle and how it lacks cliche and trite cletic "knotwork". And I love the ermine tail tassels too. Overall, I give this sporran an A++. However, we must note that this is an antique sporran and is neither going to be available or affordable for more than very few. (Even if we presume there is more than one currently in existence.)
This post makes me so happy and sad all at the same time. :-)
