Eton Jacket Mod Update
Well,
After having worn my modified Eton jacket with the PC buttons sewn on to Graduation this May, I decided I did not like the look of those long-shank buttons flopping around... Since I have a semi-formal fundraiser at the Paleontological Museum in Ithaca, NY tonight, I decided to do something about it......
So, I made my own removable PC button system (on the very, very cheap) based on a removable set I recently saw on Ebay.
1. Made buttonholes (small ones for the sleeves, regular for the front panels). This is where I made a mistake and got carried away and made four instead of sticking with the mess-dress look. Oh well, four buttons it is!
2. Made backings for the buttons out of cardboard - that's right, cardboard! I just used the paper that the buttons were shipped on! I colored the exposed side black with sharpie!!! (I told you this was cheap).
3. Next, I made homemade cotterpins to hold the buttons as still as possible. I used paperclips and a hemostat (I am sure needle-nosed pliers would work, too) to bend them to the shape I wanted.
4. You just put the button through the buttonhole, put the cardboard backing on, and slip on the cotterpins. Voila!! Buttons that lie flat and are easily removed for washing the jacket (polyester is wonderful).
I will post pics as soon as I can......

Very resourceful. So, when are you going to come to Binghamton and join us for a kilt night?
