First Kilt is coming together. Advice on accessory colors.
Finally getting the finishing touches on my Isle of Sky kilt together, but looking for some suggestions. Was originally going for a lovat green jacket, so went that way with the hose. Then decided with some help here on a Lomond blue jacket instead.
I cannot decide what's best between getting some navy hose, switching to a green tie and pocket square, or leave it as is. Will be wearing it as a wedding guest next month, with the brides blessing.

The Isle of Skye Tartan is a very versatile one. It pairs with so much that you can think outside the box. And who wants to live in a box anyway?

No one is handing out medals for abiding by unwritten rules nor can they give you a ticket for breaking them.
Are you comfortable in your clothes?

If those are the colours that you want to wear then carry on , but there are other perfectly suitable colours for your hose, tie etc.. The trick is not to fuss over matching everything. If they do then they do, but it’s actually better if they don’t.

Thanks for the replies. Updated the first post with a picture.
I think some of the indecision is coming more from it being just slightly different to be off vs a more dramatic one that makes sense.

There are few tartans I would buy twice, Isle of Skye is one of those. Like Steve after having it for awhile I decided to try different things with it. Here it is with Brown accessories.

Having seen the photo, that looks like a a charcoal jacket. A very versatile colour. I would say don't be afraid of colour. While the outfit is fine as is, I might be inclined to go a different way with the colour of hose and tie etc. I'll try to dig up or take some shots with some options I can think of later on. It is way too hot here to bother with a shirt tie and jacket at the moment. Also I agree, don't button the jacket, it looks much more natural that way.

Thanks, I'll go with keeping it unbuttoned. Lost a few lbs recently so was happy I could button it.
Jacket is a Lomond Blue tweed. Hard to see in that lighting, but has a nice hue to it. Should work with my Graham kilt when I get to ordering one.

Agree with McMurdo and I'm sure he'll have some wonderful pictures to share.
However, with that outfit, I'd probably opt for more colourful accessories. Here's a couple of occasions where I've worn my charcoal tweed recently:

This was for graduation ceremonies; went with fairly subdued with much of the outfit (white pocket square, purple tattersall shirt, club tie) but fairly flashy hose.

This was just casual daywear; went with a pastel blue shirt which I think really changes the look of the charcoal.

No waistcoat here and again, casual daywear but an extra pop of colour from the pocket square.
Hope this helps,
Shane

It should work well with the Graham tartan. Looking forward to seeing that as it is my Clan Tartan. That is the wonderful thing about tweed, it looks different depending on the lighting.
