    Fly Plaid with Tweed Jacket

I was wondering if a fly plaid is too formal to wear with a Tweed jacket. All of the pictures I have seen a fly plaid in have been with an Argyll or Prince Charlie jacket. Can some one enlighten me?

In a word, yes. A fly plaid is appropriate for only the most formal occasions, i.e. the groom at his wedding, a graduate at his graduation ceremony, etc.. Traditional day wear is very conservative by American standards and definitely not about the bling.

A fly plaid would just look weird with a tweed jacket. A day plaid or "laird's plaid" would be the bee's knees, though.

....Assuming you are outdoors and doing something like a picnic or other such outing.
