    Help me accessorize

My Mom is being nice and making an xkilt for me in Khaki. I plan on wearing it mostly with solid color golf shirts and cream hose. So here's my question, What color flashes would be better? I'm thinking I might go with Khaki flashes made from left over material or getting some fabric that about matches the golf shirt color and doing that.

I'm interested in some opinions and what other people do. My moms going to make the flashes for me at the same time so I'd like to give her a heads up.

    Thanks Guys!

    Edit:

Also does anyone know where I might be able to get a certain belt... The one I saw in a photo was like black webbing material with a black plastic buckle. It looked about 2.5 in wide but I can't be sure.

For a casual kilt like that I'd forgo the flashes altogether.

I can't help you with the belt, but as far as flashes go, you don't have to have them at all. But, since you want them, they can be in any color at all. You can match them to your shirt, or contrast them with you shirty, or have them the same color as the kilt, or black, or stripes, since you have a solid-color kilt. The only color I would avoid is white, since, to me, white and khaki don't look good together. (notice I said "I would avoid..." and "...to me..."

    Is there a sporran involved?

Have you tried wearing your kilt without hose? If you haven't, you should try it with your new Khaki kilt.

You may try shopping around for a military web belt. If you're not familiar with web gear, it is a system the military uses (or formerly used, I think, since they've gone to MOLLE and other systems, I am not sure how much old web gear is still around). I have tons of the stuff from the '70s and '80s, although it's all in olive drab, not black.

But if you look here, for example, you ought to be able to find a black web belt with plastic buckle pretty cheap. That one is 2" wide, which may or may not suit your fancy. You weren't too terribly specific with your description, but I think that may be what you're describing.

I would recommend getting a few pairs of hose in different colours for different moods. To me different shades of olive, beige and brown look good with khaki. Bolder choices are bright colours contrasting with your shirt. Also, you could wear your kilt with chunky boots and scrunched down socks.

I'd probably omit the flashes myself, but for the most versatility I'd say to get flashes from scrap material from the kilt. That way they will always match your outfit.

If there's enough material, why not make a khaki sporran as well?

I'd check out army surplus and/or second hand and charity shops for a belt.

Belt: Try out Home Depot or it's local equivalent. Nice wide leather tool belt might do the trick.

I'd skip the flashes as well but that's just me. I usually go with scrunched down hose or boot socks. Or do you have a set of lineman boots? I'm saving some pennies for a pair of those. Just throwing out ideas. ;)
