Hose Color (Revisited)
Currently I have a nice soft pair of Cream color Hose that I bought about 20 years ago. I love them, they look clean and crisp. But I understand the also may say, "RENTED".... So I have a pair of green wool hose I bought somewhere (scratchy, and too tight for my calves)..
I ordered yesterday two pair of Lewis Hose, one in Grey, and one in Black. My MacGregor Tartan of course has Red, Green and Black in it. When I was ordering, I was looking for a "Bottle Green" or the green that matches the stripes in my Tartan, but USA Kilts said their green wouldn't match.
I will probably wear the grey hose quite abit and maybe the black. But I'd like to find the right green. Any ideas?
Thanks,

Just so you know, matching colours is not regarded as an essential goal with Highland attire. There are many threads discussing the matter on this website. Perhaps someone more cleaver than I will provide you with the links should you be interested.

I've been looking into getting into my first kilt outfit. The hose advice I have received so far is mostly "Don't match to the kilt, match/compliment whatever else you are wearing"
I guess tartan is considered a "neutral" and goes with just about anything.
I have received lots of recommendations for lovat blue or green hose and dark grey hose.

I think I am going to try the grey hose. I will have on brown sporran and brown shoes, not sure how that works, but I'll see and can go from there.
Thanks, glad to know that the "TARTAN IS NEUTRAL"

Of course it's neutral. Traditionally, it's your name tag, so it is what it is!

My current favorite pair is light grey, although I really like black hose also.
I have heard others say to try and match a minor stripe in the tartan, which I sometimes do, however since an exac color match is often impossible, I do not make an effort to do so most of the time.

To match or not to match...
I personally try to match whatever shirt I'm wearing with the kilt. Failing that, I'll try to go with the minor colors in the tartan. That being said, my favorite is charcoal and I'll wear it more than anything else...

I'm not as experienced as many on the forum, but I picked up some of these, and they're what I wear most frequently when I'm in a kilt:

I'm usually wearing American Heritage or Scottish National tartans, and I dress pretty casual. While these hose don't necessarily "match", they don't seem to clash with my wardrobe either.
... Just another option.
