hose & flashes suggestions?
I'm planning on wearing my casual muted MacPherson kilt from Burnett's and Struth out soon and I need some help deciding on which hose and flashes to wear. I plan on wearing brown leathers with it in a casual (Ren Faire) setting and I have oatmeal, lovat blue and lovat green hose to choose from. I'm prepared to buy a new set of flashes, but don't know which to order.
Here's a sample of the tartan, courtesy of B&S:

Suggestions?

I would go with the oatmeal hose and simple black flashes. Understated yet classy.

You're good, sir. I just got an email back from Rocky suggesting the SAME combo.
I'd be happy to hear any and all other suggestions. Also, do folks ever take the flashes off the garters and just wear the elastic bits?

I quite often wear just the elastic bits to keep up the hose. Before some one chips in with some witty quip, yes I am wearing the kilt and all the other kit too-----just no flashes!

I had stopped wearing flashes too, like Jock is saying. No one ever complained. And if I were to kilt up again, I would either not wear the flashes or get real garter ties: bottle green or dark brown.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

I have never had a problem with hose falling down. Is that just me? Flashes have always been an ornamental piece of the outfit.

BTW, I would wear black hose. That is only because I LOVE black hose.

The Lewis hose seemed to stay up on their own pretty well, though I still used the elastic thing, just in case.
I guess the red flashes would go with just about anything... except maybe red hose.

I'd pick the blue or green hose and yellow flashes. I like to bring out the narrow stripes in a tartan.

When given a choice, most people will choose.

I'd say Lovat blue or green hose and ancient red flashes. I have black flashes however I reserve them for attending funerals.
