House of Edgar tweed question
Well, Santa was VERY good to me this holiday ; I wound up with this gem of an Braemar jacket (seller's pix below):

The jacket came without a waistcoat, but was advertised as "new" so I figure that HoE might still have the same fabric if I wanted to order the latter separately. The seller calls the color "moss green," but is anyone familiar enough with HoE's fabrics to know what exactly I should ask for?

I am not sure, but I am quite confident someone will chime in and assist you. If you don't mind me asking, where did the jacket come from? Lovely jacket! I like that it has braided epaulettes and not the flat-cloth option.
Best of luck,

Hmmmm
This is a bit of a puzzle. I have had a trade account with House of Edgar for years but I do not recognise this jacket. I just double checked the trade site and it is not available as a stock item. The nearest to it is the charcoal grey Crail jacket and vest
Unless it is a new stock item not yet listed or a very old stock item no longer available I don't have an answer. The cloth itself is not available from HofE either but it is reminiscent of a Lochcarron tweed
Perhaps one of the other dealers on here, like Rocky or Matt, can throw some light on it

Re: House of Edgar tweed question
If you want to tell me your size and what you're looking to order (i.e. a 5 button vest I assume), I can easily drop their sales manager an email with the pics and see what a vest would cost in your size. email me offline if you DO want to go that route.
BTW... ANY company that sells HOE product can do that same thing. I'm not special.
I do quite like the tweed though. Very nice! I can see that with a muted or weathered tartan.

Re: House of Edgar tweed question
When I was visiting House of Edgar almost a year and a half ago I saw a row of those tweed jackets hanging in storage and asked about them, as they were not in any catalog I had ever been sent. I was told at the time that they were being discontinued and that was all the stock left. I requested a current inventory and ordered a few in common sizes to sell at the STM shop, all of which are gone now.
So based on that, I think your chances of finding a waistcoat to match will be slim. But if Rocky can pull it off, Kudos to him! :-) Good luck!

Re: House of Edgar tweed question
My that is indeed a lovely tweed, and a handsomely built jacket, that should serve you well with just about every tartan I can think of. Agreed with Rocky that the weathered and muted should look particularly nice with it, but I have a few others it would spring to life with as well. Best of luck finding a matching waistcoat, or failing that perhaps some piece of matching fabric to have one made. Still all in all a very nice jacket and wonderful Christmas present. Congrats.

Unfortunately, there's bad news... Matt is right. This is the response I got from HOE:
Hi Rocky,
It is made from our Moss tweed which is now discontinued.
We did make a range of jackets in this fabirc some with waistcoats and some with out.
Another option for you... pick a tweed that is DIFFERENT (maybe a medium grey or a darker brown) but tones well with it.

Re: House of Edgar tweed question
If the tweed is not available, why not go for a single colour that can contrast with the tweed. I have a reversable waistcoat with my sports jacket, soon to be a conversion,(brown check matching the jacket and green as a contrast, and I mostly wear the green.

Great option, one I would definitely go for! Of course, another option would be to simply restrict the use of this particular jacket to just that; only worn as a jacket with a collared shirt, necktie, kilt, belt or no belt, etc. Sometimes I opt to leave the waistcoat at home and wear only the jacket - same basic idea with yours.
Cheers,

Re: House of Edgar tweed question
Sorry for starting the thread and then dropping off the face of the earth for a few days; thanks to all for the words of wisdom -- and special thanks to Rocky for going the extra mile to actually get in touch with HoE.
It's too bad that finding a matching waistcoat looks like a lost cause; I'll have to explore non-matching fabrics a bit further, it seems. I do have a decent 5-button bottle/tartan-green waistcoat from New Jersey Piper that I'll try out. (I originally bought that vest to go with my *other* Santa present -- a fine houndstooth conversion from my mother-in-law.)
Or I can just do as Kyle suggests and just go vest-less.
(BTW, Kyle, the eBay vendor was sporranmaker.)
