My wife is soon to knit me another pair of kilt hose and I have been thinking about the idea of her making hose without the tops and then making a few pairs of separate tops that could be worn interchangeably. Less to knit in the long run but multiple looks and uses could be had. Has anyone heard of this being done or have any thoughts on this???

There used to be a member here that sold hose tops, and I've seen several different versions over the years. In fact, I think if you look at the banner image at the top of this page, one or two of the people in that photo are wearing them.
Perhaps they can be ordered from The Newsomes at New House Highland (http://www.newhousehighland.com/knitwear.html)? I've been planning to order full pairs of custom checked kilt hose from them, but would equally consider multiple pairs of custom or ready-made checked hose tops instead.

Send a PM to Big Mikey here on XMTS. He makes hose tops and garters.
