    Interesting hose... vintage photo

While searching for something else, I came across a number of vintage photos at http://edinphoto.org.uk/talks/talk_o...hy_page_04.htm

Anyway, I came across a kilted gentleman in the highlands wearing these hose. They have an interesting pattern. I am not sure if it is an argyle, tartan, or some sort of lozenging. I like them!

Looks like thistles inside a diamond pattern.

It appears he's out shooting or stalking but in full evening wear.

His kilt is more than a little on the long side too...

Nice hose for sure, but I suspect that it is a posed picture as the attire in general is so wrong for the implied activity, in so many ways.

Agreed. Although I have seen plenty of images of sportsmen, ghillies, etc. in kilts; his overall attire is far too formal. This all said, I love the hose. With a wife that knits and a love of wooly stockings, I can see her pouring over these images to reproduce something like them.

    Here's the full set- http://edinphoto.org.uk/3/3_pss_memb...htm#thumbnails

There are a few of the chap ("Sandy", apparently) in his full splendour, lots of country types in tweeds, and one photo (no. 25) showing a kilted gentleman in attire more appropriate to the activity.

Many of the shots look to have been taken in the early 20th century, possibly in Deeside.

Yes, that is the set. There are some great images of stalkers in tweeds, and I especially like this of some men and dogs hunting birds (one in a kilt AND with a flat cap)... http://edinphoto.org.uk/0_P/0_photog...n_the_moor.jpg

Yes, looks like a couple of springer spaniels.
Note his jacket is Saxon cut too. Nice outfit though.

It is interesting that the flat cap went out of fashion(mainly with the country set----they were the ones that could afford a kilt, after all) when worn with the kilt at about the time of WW1. I have no idea why. Make no mistake, there are plenty of tweed caps worn in the Highlands today, but not with the kilt.

Indeed, I love a good tweed flat cap, and think it looks sharp with sporting clothing. Too bad that it is not considered "highland dress" to be worn with kilt by many, in spite of it having been done at one time.
