Interesting kilt pin
I must say at first glance I did not find it all that intriguing, but after studying it a while it began to grow on me...not to mention it's only 10 bucks!

I agree with David's assessment of the 'kilt pin.'
On a sidenote:
My wife has the same pin/brooch from Coach. She is actually quite a Coach fanatic, much to my chagrin at times, but I figure if I can spend money on Highland attire, then I can easily treat my wife to a nice purse, brooch, or some sort of jewelry piece from Coach. Though, she deserves much more than a purse for putting up with me! Hahaha!
Cheers,

I've got something very similar that I bought back in the late 60s. Mine has some grouse feathers in it. It was sold as a bonnet pin but when I looked at it a few months ago thought it might work for a kilt pin as well.

As one that ties flies I have often thought of something like this as a kilt kin.
Matching colors to the tartan and obviously without the sharp hook.

My father, an avid fly-fisherman, would love this!
