    Irish Caped Coat

So the new J Peterman catalog has a serious tease in it - a black and ecru lambswool Irish caped coat in 1" wide herringbone pattern.

    http://www.jpeterman.com/Herringbone-Caped-Coat

If I've done the calculations correctly the wool weight is about 20 ounce.

Have always been pleased with what I've bought from J Peterman. Have always wanted an Inverness Cape from Mr. Antony. But the caped coat has sleeves. And the cape comes off for use as a regular coat...and for about $60 less.

And Fall is upon us in the Canyonlands.

Only question now seems to be if I can squeeze my obesity into their largest size.

Sure looks like a warm coat...

Sharing a good thing in case anyone else is tempted too.....

For close to the same amount, you can get a really fine inverness cape here:

    http://www.invernesscapes.co.uk/harris.htm

These are made to measure, so some of us who have a bit more girth can be assured of a fit. And they have barathea or Harris tweed. The Tweed is cool--as tweed always is--but the red-lined barathea is really classy.

Yes, the link is to Mr. Antony that I mentioned in the original post. He's $60 more and the Inverness cape is sleeveless under the cape where the J Peterman coat has sleeves and can be worn as a coat without the cape.

Called J Peterman and the size 48 actual measurement is 56" chest - so I'm good there. Just, at that size the sleeves are 6" longer than I need. Course with the Inverness Cape there are no sleeves to worry about.

I do have an Ultimate Rain Cape from Mr. Antony and the quality is top notch. I'm guessing his capes would be too.

No matter either way until I have the dinero.

    Ron,

It's much easier to fix a coat with sleeves that are 6" too long than one with sleeves 6" too short. :-)

The Peterman surely is an attractive coat in the Inverness style, but a bit pricey for me. I had one custom made to my measurements in a similar heavyweight herringbone by Twin Roses Design for a third of that:

    http://twinrosesdesign.com/Cloaks%20for%20Sale.html

There are a lot of different styles of capes and cloaks offered but try about halfway down the list to the Dickensian or Inverness style, where they have a few in stock but more options to custom. No sleeves, different styles of closures and collars and linings, etc... heavy wieght fabric too. If I get a minute I will post a photo of mine. At least one other Xmarker got a similar one in melton wool I believe, right from stock.

Thanks for that link - I used to live in Bristol Virginia. Small world.

Wonder what she means by "medium weight" wool?
