    Question kilt pin

Can someone tell me what the purpose of a kilt pin is? I used to think that it held the front flap to the layer behind it, but I think I read somewhere that isn't the case...

    Thanks!

To weigh the front apron down so it doesn't fly up. There are plethora of stories on how the practice of fixing a pin to the front of one's apron came about but me thinks a lot of them are "truth through legend"

Actually more ornamental than any real purpose, but Kerr has it right above.

Just to clarify, the pin is attached to the front apron only -- not to both aprons. It does not pin the kilt closed, rather it adds weight to the top apron, helping that apron hang straight/not fly up or open.

It is simply ornamental. It gives us guys a chance to show a little bling.

Never, ever pin the two aprons together!!!!!!!!!!!

Ditto on never pinning the two aprons together, that can damage the kilt severely! The kilt pin acts as a "paper weight", keeping the front apron down through the occasional gust of wind.

It's a piece of "modesty bling".

I've switched to the traditional blanket pin on my wool kilt, which is like a four inch long safetypin. They are supposed to be made of stirling silver, but mine is just nickle plated steel or something like that.

I use other pins on my pleated-canvas man-skirt... unfortunatly.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Since the question has already been answered... I'll just say that we're all happy that you're not the only one, as well. A whole bunch of men? This place would need some serious pretty-ing up! Although I just speak for myself- I'm one homely git.
