Kilt shoes
I know this has probably been asked before but my searches come up wanting, I am going to 4 different weddings from may to june. For one of these weddings I need a good buckle shoe. But I don't want it to be too much like the mary jane shoe I seen on the forums.

See DWFII's post about his new highland shoe. The Culloden from Mackenzie-Frain is another choice, but they are made to order. MacKenzie-Frain has a selection of buckle shoes as well.
FYI, The Glorified Mary Jane is the Mess Dress shoe for the Scottish regiments.
It's all a matter of personal choice though. I will take the mess dress shoe for bunch of reasons, especially after hearing how I am supposed to care for the Culloden.

Major,
I've made this statement more than once on this forum, but in case you missed them...
Go to http://jas-townsend.com/index.php and look at their repro 18th shoes. About $90 and they've always had quick delivery.
A pair of these and a silver/nickel/pewter buckles and you have a fine pair for kilted formal events. And plenty of time before June.
I've been doing this for a coupla years with great effect. Looks grand with a Prince Charlie and far more proper than ghillie brogues.
Also - you gotta spend time getting a shine on these shoes, but I'm sure you're well versed at that.
Slainte yall,
steve

I neglected to add that period footwear and buckles can be had at http://www.fugawee.com .
They have a larger selection of shoes & buckles than James Townsend's. A good reputation too, though I've never ordered from them before.

Actually, according to Michael Wakeford at MacKenzie-Frain, you are supposed to just put polish on them and do nothing. It seems that the 18th Century crowd would put all sorts of rubbish on their shoes to waterproof them. The whole thing sounds disgusting to me. I'd just keep the suede pristine if I were to go this route.
While I was never in a Scottish regiment, I had enough connection to them to want the Mary-Janes. Besides, the Forbes Tartan is the regimental tartan of the Liverpool Scottish. Never mind that Liverpool is further north than my west midland's home turf.
