Kilted Headwear
Howdy all,
So, in my quest to become an ever more dapper kilted man, I've been searching for new headware. My current choice is just a black "driving cap," but I was hoping to get an old-school bonnet/tam-o-shanter knit. Would this be appropriate for formal/semi-formal wear?
I'd prefer solid color, maybe some type of shadow pattern, but no argyle or tartan, etc.
Thanks for the input in advance.
~Yeti
PS - How is everyone doing?

Holy cow, Yeti! I thought you were long gone. Anyway, just as a personal thing, I prefer no headwear when dressing semi-formal and formal. A solid color wool balmoral or knit bonnet would look good with dressy daywear, though (i.e. with a tweed jacket and tie).

No headgear is best..... But in a semi formal setting.. The flatcap or driving cap is out of place..

Shhh ... don't tell Jock. Semi formal I wouldn't bother with any headwear.

I typically only wear the hat outside, and once I get inside it gets tucked in a jacket pocket or my sporran chain.

I would say it depends on the actual hat itself some are incredibly smart and elegantly made....Most are not suitable however IMO I prefer a Glen with a heckle personally.
Saying that I attended the games a few weeks back in one of those grey rabbit skin Russian hats with a star on it, with a grey sealskin sporran just to wind people up. Plus the hale & wind was rather bad that day, I would have to of chased the hat all over otherwise.
What works best is to plonk a hat on and judge it yerself. Some faces fit different hats.

Well now, there is a question! The current trend in Scotland would be no head wear at all. A balmoral will suffice in bad weather though.

Welcome back, Yeti! In addition to Glengarries, Balmorals, and Tam o' Shanters, I also sell the Beret Tam, which is really a very basic bonnet that could easily be tucked into a pocket. A nice solid-coloured one without dicing would be a good all-purpose hat. I also offer a 10% discount to XMarkers.

I would say that most of the time I prefer no headwear, however if I am going to wear a bonnet I prefer a balmoral.

I have both balmorals and beret tams (like those Keltoi sells) in a couple different colors to match the out fit and occasion. The beret tams are nice (no ribbons or cockade) for daytime casual and semi-dress, but I prefer the balmorals for a more dressy occasion. Again, I only wear them outside--for me it is both style and purpose, as going bald has left my poor pate shamelessly exposed to the elements All are comfortable to wear, except in the extreme heat when the wool becomes a bit unbearable.
