    Legion/VFW cap with kilt

Curious if any Legion or VFW members ever wear their cap with the kilt? I used to be a member of the Legion, but never belonged to a local post. Thinking of doing that now that I'm retired and not planning on moving anymore. I pipe at a local veterans ceremony each month, and thought it might be appropriate to wear that cap for such occasions, since it's a similar shape as the glen. Other veterans at the ceremony wear the respective hats Korean War Vets, Legion, and VFW.

    Thoughts?

I would think the respective Legion posts would be better able to answer that. They may specify the manner in which the cap is worn. Often times, not, but if so then you would want to be aware of their expectations.

Otherwise, the cap is a civilian head cover used to identify with a veteran's organisation. I would go back to the most basic question: would I otherwise wear this hat as part of my outing today? If so, then what I wear below the waist is irrelevant.

If you are wearing it as an individual, then go ahead. If you are part of the group and they have a standard, then check to be sure a kilt is within that standard.

As Spartan has pointed out, the legion post will decide and advise your case. However, most of the long term vets attending locally here, usually wear jackets and ties to public events (with their cap.) I believe showing up in jacket, tie with the cap in play would sway a judgment to your favor. If offering to pipe occasionally at events, you'll surely clinch the deal.

Rigby.....if I remember correctly, my late uncle used to wear his VFW cap at times with his kilt at events in northern Virginia. I will see if I can find my old picture to verify. Not sure if he violated any protocol or not but he left parts of himself at Monte Casino and went back during Korea...figure he paid his dues!
