    low cost kilt hose

Hello, I am looking to pick up a couple of cheap pairs of kilt hose.

I was reading through some old topics, and I saw W. Brewin & Co mentioned, as well as Sportkilt socks. It looks like you can buy 3 get one free on sportkilt. But the prices are about the same or cheaper on ebay for the w. brewin & co hose.

Which do you think is the better value? Any other thrifty hose I should look into getting? Thanks!

I am not familiar with W. Brewin & Co, but I have 7 pairs of the Sportkilt socks. They are a great value and work very well with a casual kilt outfit (IMHO) but I have been dressing up more a bit lately and am finding I need some better quality more traditional hose.

The Sportkilt "regular" hose are somewhat see-through if you pull them up... perhaps they are designed that way for athletes? I have one pair and would only ever wear them scrunched down... I don't own their "premium" hose but perhaps they are a bit better.

Aye, SportKilt's "hose" are pretty much soccer sox. You can do better in any sporting goods store or big box sporting goods store - particularly at the end of your local high school soccer season. Even in my little town was getting black soccer sox for $3.95 a pair at the end of the season. Colors can be a bit "athletic" but they often work with many tartans.

Sometimes they look better pushed down to eliminate that see through look.

But no need to pay shipping and wait - visit your local sporting goods retailers.

I know there is always the "your mileage may vary" but are the SK kilt hose you have recent vintage? I bought some a couple months ago and mine don't even come close to being sheer when pulled up. The one thing they do not have is a substantial cuff. Thanks

I bought mine last year. Are yours the "regular" or the "premium"?

I had similar results with the W. Brewin hose. I attributed it to the fact that I have very large calves and the hose streched more than it normally would. I would buy the W Brewin hose again. For the price, they are a good alternative to expensive hose for daily/causal use.

I very fond of the Scottish Trading Company's cotton kilt hose. Can't bet them for the summer. They have some light weight wool hose at a reasonable price.
