    New bonnet badge

My new Sterling bonnet badge arrived yesterday from Celtic Studio. The badge was smithed in Maple Ridge, British Columbia and I'm very happy with it. The price was very reasonable all things considered and I sold a few items to finance it.

    Here it is:

Here is the standard issue pewter:

Nathan, that is a very nice looking bonnet badge you got there. I like the craftsmanship.

I wonder about the your standard issue badge, did they miss out an "E" THE instead of THEE ?

It's one of the things that bother me about the standard issue badge actually. On some, the E is there, albeit obscured by the torse, but on this particular one, the detail isn't that good, there's just a blob of pewter behind the torse.

The whole motto is visible and lovely in the new badge. I also like the way they've portrayed the heraldic elements. Fresh looking but consistent.

    Interesting.

My family is extremely small and so nobody produces clan badges for it. Not that I often wear a bonnet, I don't, but it would be nice to have a badge to go on it.

Each one is made to order so you should contact them. You can find them on the web or at their more up-to-date etsy store.

Very smart, Nathan! I really like it. I'm actually awaiting the arrival of a Macpherson clansman's badge in sterling silver from Roddy Young (Inverness) at Clan Crest Silver.

I prefer the look of the new badge, as well. Very nice, congratulations Nathan.

I look forward to seeing the finished product. Roddy's cap badges are £160 whereas Celtic Studio's are $160 CAD.

At today's exchange rate, that's $294 CAD plus taxes, duty and shipping for one of Roddy's. That's why I was so glad to find a Canadian supplier.

    Cheers,

    Nathan

Tell me about it! My total cost for the badge was around $286 US, which includes international shipping. Obviously, I am not charged VAT or any other type of tax, since the badge will be shipped to my address here in the US. Hopefully, there isn't a duty either. It has been ages since I have been charged a duty (last one was via Kinloch Anderson in 2006), and through the years I've ordered various items from Scotland quite a bit! I have always loved Roddy's work and his artistic style. It's so difficult for me, as a professionally/classically trained artist myself, to go with another artist (whether it's a sporran maker, or a silversmith) once I fall in love with their work.

You definitely received a gorgeous badge, Nathan, and at a very good price! I am quite confident you will wear it proudly, my friend. Congratulations!

    Cheers,
