    new bonnet - pre-jocking

Got my Mackie today. I picked a color I felt would be traditional, go well with the two tartans I wear occasionally (Caledonia and Davidson), and it just so happens that blue is one of my favorite colors.

I'm still on the fence about "jocking" it. Of course, it won't get any wear for awhile as our weather really won't warrant it... so I've got some time.

Thank you very much! I was expecting Monday or Wednesday, I was pretty surprised when I met my mailman and he said "You got something from overseas today!".

My wife commented that my eyes are "blue-er" when I wear blue shirts, the headgear even moreso. She originally wanted me to get something more earth-toned... but now she's apparently happy... although she's probably going to continue to make fun of the pom on top... I can live with that.

Nobody's feelings will be hurt if you cut the toorie off the top.

Jocking that bonnet might solve some of your heat issues. Soak it in cold water, beat it up a little bit and wear it 'til it's dry. Rinse and repeat as needed.

I've done the "soak and wear" twice now and it's still got that "new" look, but it's quite well formed at this point - I can put it on my head and it's positioned properly without much fuss.

Of course, our tap water is coming out at around 85* (lukewarm) at it's coldest, so I added ice to the water.

Once you soak the bonnet, you've got to rough it up some to beat the "new" out of it. Don't twist it, but you can punch and squeeze it and throw it up in the air and catch it, then put some ice in it and plop it on your head.

I understand about the warm water. The in-laws live in and around Gainesville.

Joshua, That is a beautiful bonnet! I am planning on purchasing one in the next week or so as well! You wear it well.

Quick question for you, what color did you purchase?

Looks great, such a bold colour! I wouldn't worry about "Jocking" your new Balmoral, that process can occur naturally with age - at least that is how I approach the wearing of all of my Mackie Balmorals. Obviously, the choice is yours mate.

    Cheers,

    Post-Jocking (4 soakings, hangings, and wet-wearings later).
