New Sgian Dubh
Actually I've had it for a while, but never got around to posting the pictures...
This is a Cold Steel "Spike" self defense/hide-out knife. They have a series of these knives styled after various traditional blade forms from around the world, this is the "Scottish Spike" pattern.

It is shaped from 420 solid steel, 7/32 of an inch thick. The 3.5 inch blade is distal tapered and flat ground to a zero edge. For a fat narrow blade, it has some good cutting power, and is very strong. Quite a package for a 2.5 ounce, $30 knife.

Here's a comparison to one of my 'typical' Sgians;

Not fancy, but a good useful everyday carry.
About my only issue with the Spike was the "Secure-Ex" sheath it comes with, it's made to retain the knife hanging on your gear, or on a neck lanyard, so it covers a lot of the handle, and it's not so great in the sock. But I but have since made up a leather one that works fine.

Re: New Sgian Dubh
It's a nice looking tool. I just Googled it and it is available in the UK at just short of US$50 (GBP equiv) which seems quite a mark-up. I do think that if you wore it with a kilt here, you may have an issue persuading an inquisitive copper it was a sgian dubh. Me thinks you might be in some bother, depending on the circumstances. Still a nice knife though.

Re: New Sgian Dubh
I too have picked up the "Scottish Spike" by Cold Steel about 6 weeks ago and it has become my favorite, especially for day wear. Since I can't seem to be able to afford a custom made sgian, I enjoy its functionality, wide availability and very reasonable price.
The sheath on mine was initially so tight that I ended up tieing a piece of stout cord to the handle, and the sheath to a fence post. A really good solid tug was required to remove the knife from the sheath the first time. The way the knife fits in the sheath also took a bit for me to get used to. The knife is very sharp and I ended up nicking myself twice in the first few minutes of trying to get the sheath loosened up.
I inintially felt that the sheath was bulky, but now I have gotten used to it and the way it feels in my sock.
I also guess that anything named a "Scottish Spike" has got to have be good.

I love the look of it. Very sleek and clean. Any suggestions as to where I may obtain one without bending the forum rules?

I also have the Scottish Spike by cold steel.
I have a Cold Steel Sgian Dubh, called the Braveheart.
It is my out of site everyday carry. I have a CCW.
I love them both.

Sevenoaks, try this site, they're in Vancouver and a great shop. I got my Braveheart blade there.

Coldsteel has their own website. I use a Scottish Spike as my day to day wear sgian. ALL ColdSteel knives (I own several) are EXTREMELY sharp. handle with care.
