New Sporran!
My new-to-me day sporran has arrived and I’ve been able to shorten the chain to fit. I don’t have a traditional kilt yet, but with apologies to Jock Scot, it doesn’t look too terrible with my utility kilt…

Well said, sir!
To be 100% truthful, I’m only checking fit. Should be ordering a traditional kilt in the next month or so; just happened to find a good sporran first.
I cannot speak for others, but I value the input and advice of you and our other members, as I am quite new to kilts.
Best,
John

What I wonder is if, with the three feathers, that sporran was intended to be worn by a Clan Chief??
Certainly if I was out at a Highland Games and saw a gent wearing that sporran I would glance up at his bonnet!

Doubtful. The sporran belonged to a friend of Father Bill and member of X Marks, known as Aonghas here on the boards…
The carved feathers are certainly an aftermarket addition, though I don’t think they are a bad looking one…

When I first saw them I thought they might be ferns. I've seen fern brooches with a similar size and shape.

Possible. These appear to have been originally necklace beads, as the stems each have a hole drilled through.
So, what does the rabble think? Ferns or Feathers???

Whatever they are, I thought from the original picture that they were gold-colored (plated or polished brass). Looks nice, though.
EDIT: Oh, and I love the civility of the start of this conversation. Wonderfully and gracefully done by everyone involved.
