    Obscure Clan Crests

Does anyone have an idea of where to find such a thing? I know my clan has a crest, as I have a blazon and have seen artistic representations, but does anyone know of a company that makes such esoteric goods?

This is the crest, btw. Sorry for the huge link: http://http://www.google.ca/imgres?i...26tbs%3Disch:1

I couldn't get the link to work properly. What clan is it? Have you tried Scotweb? (see link above in XMarks Dedicated Partners). They have access to a numerous hard to find clan crests.

    Good luck.

    Yup, link's broke.

I recently got a beautiful Forrester (not exactly standard common stock either) silver cap badge from Scottish Tartan Museum from when they were having their sale a couple months ago. I think they can find about any clan out there for you. But silver is expensive. Cast Pewter are available from a company called Gaelic themes if you can find then out there, or a vendor who sell their stuff.

Other vendors I have never used but heard good things about:

    Happy hunting.

Here's a link to the sterling silver badges we offer. At $120 for a custom made, hand cast sterling silver badge, it's not a bad price.
    http://giftshop.scottishtartans.org/silver_badges.htm

Of course, if you can find your crest available from stock in pewter, it will be much less. But I gather you've tried and cannot find a supplier. So having one made for you is probably the way you will have to go.

Let us know what the crest is and we may be able to do more to help.

I bought a clan crest pin from Celtic Studio in Vancouver, Canada. They don't stock all of the less popular crests, but they will make them up when they get an order. I thought that the price was reasonable.

The crest is Renwick, which is not so much a Scottish Clan as a family with Scottish/Border roots, apparently. Though I've managed to locate our Tartan, the crest, which has been described as a 'dexter hand holding a scimitar proper', has not been found. I think my best bet aside from commisioning a custom work (which, as a teenager working part-time on the neighbour's dairy farm, I really don't have all that much money for), would be to find my grandmother's crest, which id Brown, or else dig up in the family and see if one trickled down from my Montgomery great-great-grandmother, though I'm hesitant about wearing that with such a diluted claim.

The usual conventions aside, you've got (approximately) the same amount of Montgomery and Brown DNA in your cells as you do Renwick...Just another perspective.

Gaelic themes also offers "generic" badges, such as St. Andrew & the Saltire, which could be an option for you.

I have thought of that, but to me, that's a little like pretending. Of course, this might be a case of pot and kettle, but.....

Not my family tartan, but the visual representation is correct. So at least I know it exists in some form...
