Ok. Kilts out! Breeks in! Anyone want my kilts?
I’m going to switch to “all breeks all the time”.
See ya. I'm off to the Breeks Forum...

Orvis is a great source of things tartan. When I went through the dark days of kilt prohibition at work was their tartan shirts and tartan pants I wore as a mild act of defiance and cultural pride.
Saw that stuff in my Orvis catalog too...figured why not buy the garter ties from Matt, support smaller business and get a wider selection of colors.
Orvis also got me with their RAF replica mechanic's vest as an alternative to a sporran.

Sorry no picture,I must have done something wrong.OOOPs!
Matt is absolutely correct that Kilt hose(not formal evening ones) and shooting socks for breeks are one and the same thing.Whilst flashes are worn with breeks it is regarded as almost a faux pas in traditional uk shooting circles. The hose are held up with garters, but no flashes.

The House of Cheviot in Hawick who make our Lewis Hose and garters also supply to retailers in the UK who sell shooting and hunting clothing. I understand it's a pretty big part of their business. I'm not saying they supply to Orvis in particular, but other retailers in the UK who sell this type of goods.
But you are correct, there really is no practical difference between "shooting stockings and garters" and "kilt hose and garters."
I did a quick google search for "shooting stockings" and the first page on the list was this one:
http://www.wendykeithdesigns.co.uk/products.htm
The second on the list was the "Almost Unwearoutable Sock Company"
http://almostunwearoutable.com/pages/ordering.htm
Our own "cajunscot" aka Todd Wilkinson has a pair of kilt hose from them that he raves about. But I bet they wouldn't be second from the top if you did a google search for "kilt hose."
House of Bruar didn't turn up till the second page of the search, but I wanted particularly to show you this page, just because of the picture. This nice country lady is wearing kilt hose!

Orvis hunting catalog
I think that we have established that the kilt is not always a practical garment and perhaps I can offer a modest word or two of advice on "breeks".I have worn breeks----plus 4's----ever since I was a lad and I have seen fashions come and go, differant cloths come and go in the breek world.
You can have breeks made out of leather, moleskin, loden and other cloths but there is only one cloth to have and that is tweed and not that thin soft fashion type of stuff but the real hard type tweed and the heavier the better.Certainly nothing less than 16oz otherwise you will soon have an expensive heap of rags if you attempt anything mildly practical.
You will want to be able to move easily in your breeks so make sure that you have an extra inch or two of space around your backside and most certainly make sure that you have plenty of space around your crotch area. Finally make sure that you have more than enough cloth below the knee so that when you are going over rough ground the cloth does not ride up and separate itself from the hose.A real bother that is!
So!For what it is worth don't go for the tight fitting "fashion look" if you wish to do anything practical in your breeks. The chaps in the" baggy look" breeks know a thing or two, believe me!
