Patchwork Waistcoats?
Several of the people I know and have worked with make quilts. I'm wondering, are patchwork waistcoats ever worn with kilts?
And, in case that question is a lead balloon, what kinds of patterned waistcoats are worn with kilts? Patterns, prints, designs, embroidery of any sort, etc..? I think I've read about tartan cut on the bias.
Thank you.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

I don't know if they are part of the tradition of kilt wearing, but I do know that Orvis had a tartan patchwork waistcoat on sale a couple months ago that made it into a thread here on the forum. We even had a wee bit of fun trying to pick out what tartans were likely present form the small swatches. Not sure anybody liked the look of it though.

The wearing of a waistcoat, coloured, tartan, or patchwork, is always a matter of individual style. However, stylish people often run the risk of looking mighty foolish if they aren't careful. Generally, if you have to ask the question "does this look all right?", it doesn't.

Mac,
That "does this look alright?" question is kind of in the same vein as the "does this make my *** look big?" one that men so often get asked. Most people who ask already have their opinion but are fishing for approval, and those asked cannot give an honest answer without fear of offending the asker, and a dishonest answer only reinforces the questionable choices they are asking about in the first place. No right answer.

Never mind, it was a stupid question.
Thanks for the replies.

YES! But not by those faint of heart or with good fashion sense.

Ted, the only stupid question is the one not asked!

Perhaps so, Cloves. Unfortunatly, I have no choice but to ask if something looks all right.
I was thinking more of the pattern that the sewn together pieces of a quilt form than there being colors different from the tartan's. Just a silly idea for something casual I got while looking at a quilt.
It doesn't matter.

I'm not sure what that picture is, Mael Coluim. I know I've seen discussion of tartan waistcoats cut on the bias.
The thought I was having would be more like a diced waistcoat. For example, if the tartan were Black Watch, a waistcoat made from diamond shaped patches of dark green and blue. Perhaps even just the diamond shaped patches of all the same green or all the same blue to have the patern of the shapes without the different colors.
I don't know.

Think Orvis has them on sale right now.
