    Pin Problems

I've found that if I am walking quickly the latch on my kilt pin will open. If I jog or run my kilt pin will not only unlatch, but come out of the kilt completely. Has anyone else had this kind of problem? Does anyone know any way to remedy the situation? I am looking for remedies other than "Don't wear a kilt pin." or "Don't run."

A lot of people on this board will tell you that you should not remove your kiltpin once you have it on your kilt.

I agree to an extent, so what you should do it maybe put a dolop of hot glue on the latch of the pin. It dries quickly but make sure it dries before letting it rest back on the kilt! Hot glue from a hot glue gun will hold the latch securly but when and if you decide to remove the pin the glue is weak and rubbery enough that you can just pull the dried dolop off.

    Anyone else?

I have the same problem, I've had a pin drop off more than once, they are quite unreliable.

At work I go without, only wearing one on 'dress up' occassions.

Like Graham, I, too, only wear one for dress occasions, for the very reason you have stated.

I am looking for a more spring like closure to ensure safety.

I squeeze the latch a bit with a pliers. Just enough to make it snug. I've noticed that those types of latch are almost always a bit too sloppy. Another solution is a dab of rubber cement since it stays pliable and flexible when it sets.

    Bubba,

I have tried the plier method in the past and have found that it reduces the interety of the metal and leads to fatigue and failure sooner.

I have tryed this too, works so far, you can imagine on the Toronto night out, one of the guys says
" anyone loose a kilt pin"? I look down and find mine has gone, it dropped off and fell in the pisser I picked it up with a paper towel and ran it under the hot water. pays to keep an eye on it evry few mins too.

I haven't had any problem with the metal giving out. I only do it once, just enough to make it snug. After that no more is needed.

I was thinking about getting some superglue and putting a little bit in the latch and moving the latch back and fourth while it dries so that it doesn't get glued shut, but the latch gets tighter.

    Pinnage

I use a bit of pencil eraser (rubber for you English speakers) stuck onto the end of the pin.
