Position Of The Sporran Strap Buckle
A tiny little thing for sure...but...
Started out with, and for many years have been, placing the buckle of my sporran straps at the center of my back.
Of course I have to buckle them up when to one side then pull them back into position. Got to thinking that's not good on the kilt material.
Also, often feel the buckle pressing into my back when seated.
Of late I've begun moving the sporran strap buckle to the front, hidden behind the sporran itself.
I find it much more comfortable when seated and much easier to buckle and unbuckle from the front.
Am I late to the party and just figuring this "trick" out? Still see most sporran strap buckles positioned in center back in pics and in person at highland games.
Not sure if its "correct" but I've come to like having the sporran strap buckle up front that's the way I'm doing it now.

Ron I do the same thing. Like you it was kind of a "Duh" thing to figure out it was more comfortable and better for the kilt not to move it around to the back. I'm sure there are any number of people ready to post about how we are violating some code of kilt dressing but I like to do it that way and so will do it that way.

Ron I found an unique solution to this problem, I made my sporran straps without buckles, just monkey snaps on the ends to connect with a small piece of leather that has small loops on it that sits behind the sporran itself.

Ron, you are the sponsor of my latest "duh" moment. I will do as you do from now on. Brilliant! Regards...

Since day one I've used a sporran belt rather than the strap and chains. The buckle is on the right front hip side. Makes it easy to slide the sporran over to the left for seating, driving and 'stuff'.

When in civilian attire the traditionally proper place for the buckle on a sporran strap to be worn is... where it is most comfortble!

I wear the sporran strap with the buckle on the left side/hip 'cause it adds a little bling to the one kilt strap side.
