Pros and Cons of Pewter On Accessories?
I'm thinking about using pewter buttons and sporran cantle rather than chrome for the "white metal" of a semi-formal ensemble. What are the pros and cons of pewter on those items?
To get the cantle design I want, it will most likely need to be either cast from my design, or etched and engraved into a preexisting item. Pewter seems to be more of a possibility, for me, than some of the other options.
* As brought up below, the pewter would polished before use. *
Thank you.

Thanks for posting this, Ted, it is a really good question, and I too am looking forward to hearing from those with experience of pewter accessories.

Other than being a very soft metal I can't think of any cons at the moment... I'm sure someone more experienced will chime in though

I don't know about the pros and cons of using pewter, I just like the look of it better than silver for accessories.

I'm wondering if it reacts with any cleaning solvents or detergents. I vaguely remember something like that... but I also believe there are different kinds of pewter.

Are you considering new pewter or old lead-based pewter?

I don't have a problem with sterling silver... Pewter might be a little more practical...

The buttons would be removable, and I don't think they would make it through the drycleaning, but that's not too big of an issue.

In my opinion pewter colored metal on one's accessories is far less formal than using bright silver or chrome.
I think it works very well with black leather accessories for day wear but is not going to look right on a black or white tie outfits.
