Question about Kilt hose

The current pair of Kilt Hose I have is the Gaelic Themes brand available through the Kilt Store. I have the physique of an offensive lineman.

These kilt hose are going to cause my legs to shrivel up and rot from the knee down. they're just too tight. I ordered based on my shoe size. Should I order a new set in the next size larger and hope they fit better at my calf with the chance they'll fit awful on my feet? Or should I order a different brand that might possibly be more forgiving on the calf?

As I posted in another thread, sometime early in 2007 we (the Scottish Tartans Museum gift shop) will be able to offer a "fully formed" calf hose that will better fit those with large calves.

In the meantime, a lot of times ordering the next size hose up will work, so it might be worth a try. I know Gaelic Themse hose are sized S, M, L, etc, so you can't neccesarily order the next largest shoe size, or else you may end up getting the same size hose if is falls within the same size range (for instance, if you wear a size 8 and went up to a size 9, you'd get a M pair of hose in either case).

If your calves are too hard to fit, there is always the option of custom knit hose.

Well, I don't suffer from your problem, but I would think that the next size up is only going to give you hose with a larger foot, and not much more in the calf. You probably need to think about some custom sized hose. Search the forums, others have addressed this.

Lochcarron hose are slightly more "forgiving" as Gaelic Themes.

For what it's worth the pairs I buy for my pipe band uniform are through Geoffery Tailor and they fit me great. I've got pretty big calves/legs, though I'm more like a TE than a lineman.

If you are looking for a long sock tht will look nice and give you a thick cuff without stretching out thin around a large calve... Hamilton Dry Goods for $8 is a great deal.

If you want a sock that does all that and has a really nice braided pattern on it...you're looking at at least $70. I think Burnetts & Struth's actullly sells a sock for Large Calves.

I wear the Hamilton Dry Goods socks and love them. They stay up without flashes and they are easy to care for being cotton.
