    Quick kilt pin question.

Since kilt pins are mainly decorative, is there any reason a person couldn’t wear any pin as a kilt pin? A lapel pin might be too small, and I’m thinking some pins might be too big and would weigh down the apron, but what about other types of pins not sold as kilt pins?

I have occasionally worn this hallmarked silver Robert Allison brooch as a kilt pin; it's about 40mm in diameter.
