    Regimental & Glengarry badges

Mr. MacDougall had request assistance in a search for a caduceus kilt pin. I suggested perhaps an old unit cap badge. Which reminded me of a search I did a couple of years ago.
My brother and I want to present dad with some service history of Granddad. he served in WW1 as a Sarjent in the Royal Field Artilliary. We were able to download his service record or a modest fee from the national archives Kew Gardens (they have most WW1 records on line now). We were then able to get reproductions of the medals he was awarded and have them mounted with an RFA cap badge. I had kept this site in my favourites and some of you may find it of interest as they have some glengarry badges availiable.
    Go to www.egframes.co.uk/
I got the reproduction medals from www.worcmedals.com/. Medals from many countries are availiable including UK, US, Canada.

    Grant -

Thanks for that link! I wandered around in it briefly and found the 9th/12th Royal Lancers (Prince of Wales's) mentioned... one of two units I worked with once upon a time in a land far away - in this case while the lads with the "cherry beret" ("cherry berry - we're the only ones what got it" as they stated) were with the BAOR. VERY cool way to rekindle some great memories!

Too bad there wasn't anything there for the PPLCI!

The MacGregor kilt I recently got was partly to honour my grandmother. My grandfather served with the Royal Welch Fusiliers in WW1 so I thought it would be nice to wear a RWF cap badge to honour him.

After some searching I found a link to the Fusiliers museum in Gwynned, Wales. I e-mailed asking if they could direct me to a nice reproduction.

Mr. Owen, the curator, informed me that I could purchase a GENUINE and ORIGINAL cap badge for 7 pounds including shipping. Soooooooooooo........

If you don't mind reproductions, I've found the folks at Worldwide Militaria Exchange to have the best prices and selection of regimental cap badges. http://www.wwmeinc.com/mm5/merchant....ode=10-002-030 there are six pages so don't overlook the entire list.

The Scottish Reserve thistle badge on p 6 is a really handy badge to own. It doesn't look so much like a military badge, so it's useful for anyone who wants to sport a Scottish cap badge without any particular clan affiliation. I got a couple to wear for general purposes. They also have some nice Irish badges, at least one of which works for a non-military look as well.
