Safety Brogues anyone?
I picked up a pair of these recently, partially because they're made locally here in Toronto, and partially because I wanted a work Boot that had more style. I do security at an office complex after all. Though I'm stuck with the issued uniform, I feel like these would be a smart look for those that do work, while in kilt, that needs steel toe but not big ankle support. I think they would be perfectly fine for non formal day wear and non formal casual evening wear. Do you think they would take a shine (polish shine)?

I've yet to try to put a shine on them, beyond what the factory has done. They're made of a sturdy leather do seem like they would take a decent enough polish.
I think they'll suit just fine for safety shoes for work, they look better than clunky work boots anyway. I have no intention of trying to wear them for anything formal at all.

I think these would work well in the field, or perhaps at a Highland Games.

Yes they would, particularly if a shine on the leather could be obtained.

Military Oxfords, as issued, have that same dull finish. Strip them down with saddle soap, then build the finish back up with black Kiwi paste polish and the appropriate amount of elbow grease and they can be made to shine like a mirror... provided they are leather and not leather-clad something.

Shoes like that will take a brush shine, though it may take a bit of time. After the wax builds up you can use either Kiwi regular shoe polish or parade gloss polish. The parade gloss will give you a "higher" shine. Unless you're one of those people who believe everything has to be spit shined [bulled] you'll do fine with a brush shine. I wore shoes similar to that when I worked in law enforcement for 26 yrs.

I was cleaning these this morning after a wonderful but exhausting day out on the hill yesterday. Apart from the picture above was taken some years ago now and they certainly don't look that colour or as shiny now, the thought did occur though.
Apart from no steel toe caps and the flaps("kilties")over the laces I did notice a similarity to the ones brought into question in the OP. Certainly not dancing daps, but more than adequate for less formal outside kilt attire.
