    Sgian don't?

So I am focusing my funds on a jacket and vest for my kilted look. I have two kilts (one getting the liner replaced and the other being finished.) nice shoes two pairs of hose and another pair being knitted as we speak as well as the nice old school style garter flashes some green flashes and some tartan flashes. A nice kilt belt in a dark chocolate brown with a chrome buckle and a brass buckle.
So on my need to get list (other than the jacket and vest) is a black belt and a sgian dubh. The belt I am actually doing something special with so that's to come soon. As far as my sgian dubh I would like a really nice one. But I was thinking that I need one for the mean time and it shouldn't cost much that way I can wear it wile piping with the band and not care if I loose it.
So I snagged this on my beloved eBay for 99¢

I did a little woodburning on it to Scottish it up a bit and fixed the sheath to work better. So what do you think? Is this a good low cost sgian dubh? Or a terrible low cost sgian don't?

Let YOUR utterance be always with graciousness, seasoned with salt, so as to know how you ought to give an answer to each one.

    Good. Definitely and unequivocally good.

If you think our forebears all dressed identically and carried the same knife,
that's not it. If you think they were independent cusses who walked their own road and used what came to hand, it's perfect. Wear in health and enjoyment.
I like the modification, and I'd wear it pretty much anywhere.

That's a good idea. Nice work too!

I just remembered that I had one just like it in the basement. Picked it up about 20 years ago at some tourist trap in New Mexico. It shows its age! A new sheath is in order too.

I don't do woodburning, but I think I can come up with something. I was just thinking that it might be time to get a sgian dubh. Thanks for reminding me that I had one!

You might have started a new trend...cheapo one-of-a-kind sgian dubhs.
The grass is greener on the other side of the fence...and it's usually greenest right above the septic tank.

Don't feel compelled to carry a sgian dubh in the first place. Most only serve the purpose of decoration. Unless yours is a functional, well-made blade they tend to be more aggravation than they're worth, particularly for daywear.

Given that, I think that the knife shown looks like an interestingly carved mass-produced boot knife, but not like a sgian dubh. Sgian don't.

I have a mass-produced, yet nice, sgian dubh I'd be willing to donate to your cause. If you're interested, PM.

The woodburning really set it off, looks great. I would check local laws before wearing it since it is what is refered to as a stiletto and is prohibited even in gun toting Texas
