Sgian-Dubh from Iraq
Hey folks,
Sorry I haven't been around lately...Things are kinda hectic here in the sandbox and this is the first chance I've had the opportunity to post in a long time.
I found this small dagger at one of the hadji shops in Baghdad and was wondering what your thoughts were about using it as a sgian-dubh? It's just about the right size and weight, plus I kinda liked the shape and color...The vendor tried to tell me it was gold-plated, but truthfully, it's polished brass...I was able to get it for under $20.00.
Anyway, here are a few pictures to show off my new accessory that will enhance my growing kilt collection (I have four to date).

Best regards and good to be back.

It looks small enoug that the sheath tip wouldn't push your hose forward. Personally, I'd have a leather sheath made for it (for comfort) but I think it would work fine. Combine it with the tartan that Jay had comissioned, and I think it would match perfectly.

I think that is an excellent idea, but I agree with Streetcar, a leather sheath would help.

Looks beautiful, but I think I go along with needing a leather sheath.

I think it's great, and a whole lot better than the WWI German army bayonet my Uncle Angus insisted in sticking down his sock (he only wore trousers). And I go for the leather sheath.

With the rings on the sheath, I thought of adorning a gold chain, perhaps around or under the flash???

It's very distinctive and will serve as a great reminder of your experiences there, I'm sure.

Looks nice. Isn't that called a jambiya?

It is indeed a miniature jambiya....
