Shoes 4 Kilts
Hi folks,
I've got a pair of ghillie brogues, but I just can't keep the laces from creeping down to my ankles. (perhaps because I have a shapely calf - ha). I've also worn oxford shoes with my kilts and argyll jacket but it just doesn't look right.
However, I just bought a pair of Nunn-Bush, kiltie tassel slip ons, shiny black of course, and I think they look perfect with a kilt and argyll, but I'm not so sure about wearing them with the PC.
They are definitely dress shoes. Can I wear them with my PC, without worrying about the kilt police?

I've heard others on here talk about using a quick burst of hairspray on the laces before tying them up round the leg. An old piper's trick apparently.
The other shoes sound pretty great though~ I'd love to see pics.

They look like a great alternative to a ghillie or some oxfords to me.
I say wear 'em with pride!

remember the pictures with the clan chiefs? Check out their shoes.. most gentlemen in the pictures shown, few actually are wearing ghillie brogues..

Have the same problem with ghillies, so I wear a pair of oxford wing tip slip-ons with tassels. Beside I find the soles on ghillies are to thin for me.

Those should be fine, perfectly acceptable.

This is probably one of those cultural differences, North America/Europe things but, I think they look like golf shoes. SORRY.
The original idea of the ghillie brogue was to have holes so water could drain out; no tongue; long laces which were tied around the ankle to stop them being sucked off by the boggy ground. Not only do these not have the drain holes but they have an extra frilly tongue and they are slip-ons so no laces - all three of the defining parts of ghillie brogues removed. If I don't wear my ghillie brogues, then it is my standard brogues or my Oxfords. I would not wear these.
Regards
Chas

What about bluchers, which are often mislabeled as oxfords, but have laces on the outside of the shoe? Are those alright to wear with anything formal?
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

I like the shoes and think they would go great with a Black Argyll jacket.
Being slip ons they just don't seem like something that is formal enough for a tuxedo or a Prince Charlie.
Regular dress shoes are fine with a PC, but they should be lace up dress shoes.
Cheers
