Shooting Stockings vs. kilt hose?
A question to my learned friends, is there a difference between shooting stockings and kilt hose? What is the difference? I was looking at this web site(http://www.wendykeithdesigns.co.uk) and they do look very similar.

Kilt hose seem as though they're made with thinner wool - although if you're wearing plain shooting stockings I bet no one could tell the difference

They look very similar to the Lewis Rich kilt hose offered by Matt Newsome. I plan on getting a pair or 2 in the near future.

Well, I'll say one thing - Wendy Keith is one crackerjack knitter!

Her hose are nicely done in fine wool and if they are hand knit as she says, they are, and not machine knit, they are well done and worth the cost. As for the difference, I really don't see any except that she uses much softer wool yarns... and the gauge seems a bit finer as well...than most kilt hose are knit of which is why they are priced as they are.
It gives me the idea of taking some of the cashmere fiber I have waiting to be spun and spin up some yarn for a pair of cashmere kilt hose for my DH!!

Those are beautiful. as above, wish I could see a price list.
Scotweb also has a collection of what they call "country socks" listed as a separate entity from their "kilt hose" listing. As far as I can tell they look like and work well as kilt hose, and I have a couple three pairs of them in different patterns and color schemes, as well as one or two in solids.

They are one and the same thing as far as I, and many others here in Scotland, are concerned.

The stockings that are for sale in the online store are 80 to 90 pounds-these were the Welly stockings though (don't know the difference there either) and not the Shooting Stockings-those are not sold online. Still, not bad for hand knit really.
