Shortened football strips ... any opinions?

I've always wanted to wear one of my football strips with the kilt to the highland games, but my body type is such that I don't look quite right with tucked in shirts without a jacket or waistcoat over. I wonder what opinions X-Markers have on wearing a shortened football strip untucked for casual wear? I would assume the shirt would have to be shortened to fall far down enough to cover the top straps of the kilt, but not to interfere with the sporran.

On occasion I wear a custom hockey jersey with a casual kilt. It is full length and I just bunch up the front so it sits on top of the sporran, something like this......

    It works for me!

I've worn an England rugby jersey with my kilt. Unfortunately the center bar of St Georges cross runs midway between navel and sternum. To me it looks awkward bunched on top of the sporran as Big Mikey suggested. This is entirely due to the cross if it were a solid colour such as Mikey's wearing it would look fine.

Very good look, Mikey. I'll see how it looks with my RFC strip later tonight, although I think you might be a bit taller than I!

hey....that "over the sporran" thing is sorta like Gretzky. How he's know for tucking one side in so it won't catch on his stick.
So..uhm....Mikey's jersey won't get caught on his Sherwood either...... LOL

Hey, many in the tartan army wear their Scotland kit with kilts and that seems to look alright for the occasion. I have worn rugby shirts and besides the previously mentioned bunching, I think it's a good combo.

    nope

Wearing my team's (Montreal Canadiens) with my kilt would be ugly (my kilt being Lumsden Hunting Ancient, predominantly green and blue). A Leafs jersey would be a better match, and that won't happen in THIS lifetime or the next.

Actually, a Canucks Retro home jersey would look snappy.

For our European members, I can also say that my Manchester United strip would clash as well, and there is no chance of me donning a Chelsea or Rangers strip. Same idea, different sport.

    Hey Tom,

I've no clue what a football strip is...the world is passing me by...but like Big Mikey I've been known to wear a football jersey with a kilt.

Tucked this one in since it was white and I could show more of the kilt and the buffalo hide sporran. Pic is along the Little Colorado River on the Navajo Reservation. Rare that the river has water in it.

Kilt is USA Kilts semi-trad in Thomson Grey.
